High-impact, low-effort Christmas decorating ideas

As the Christmas shopping panic takes hold, the purse gets lighter and lighter, and there seem to be more demands on my time (ok, it’s party season, I can’t hibernate for all of it!) I’ve started looking for Christmas decorating ideas that are big on impact, but low on effort.

Luckily I have found some inspirational Christmas gems, that don’t necessarily cost the earth or take the entire festive season to assemble, but which look pretty amazing in your home.

Kick off the countdown to Christmas with a unique advent calendar. Ok, so maybe this IS a little more time consuming than nipping to the shops for a cardboard calendar, but this can-based option is far more spectacular (and reusable!). Want to find out how to make it?

I love this mantelpiece. It exudes traditional and chic styling, but is so simple to achieve. In a bed of ivy, use vintage-style lettering to spell out your festive message – it can be whatever you like – add twinkle with fairy lights, and finish with a few sprays of mistletoe and some spindle baubles. Sparkling.

Adorn banisters with treats with this adorable, virtually effortless idea. Hang plain mugs from the banisters using candy-stripe ribbon, and fill the cavity with chocolate, sweets and trinkets. Also a great alternative to traditional stockings!

Decorating the Christmas dining table needn’t be overcomplicated – pared-back place settings look ultra-stylish, and still seasonal. Try tying each set of cutlery together with a length of thin ribbon, et voila! Instant festive feature.

I feel like carrying out some festive crafts now…
